#FoodNews Good News.

A BAG OF RICE CRASHES TO #13,500 Nigerians can now heave a sigh of relief as the price of rice crashes to #13,500 after many months of increased in the price of imported rice in Nigeria. Cap rice and other brands of imported rice has continued to increase from #8,000 in 2015 to almost #22,000 in the first quarter of 2017. Rice which is considered food for the poor suddenly became a scarce commodity meant for the rich and the affluence. No doubt the importers of this commodity kept milking Nigerians dry attributing the increased in price to exchange rate and other harsh economic policies of the present administration. Consumers can now smile again as they can now comfortable order for their brand of rice, Cap rice, Golden Standard, African Princess among others for #15,000. With this development it is believed that Nigerians can prepare their favourite rice delicacies without cutting their throat. The beauty of it all is that the rice can be delivered right inside your living room if you so wish. What are you waiting for, would you rather not place your order now, hurry while the stock last. Just call 08032284246 now and have your choice brand delivered to you at the cheapest price.

#BUSINESS My Struggles as An Online Entrepreneur!

There are no gainful employments in Nigeria…

That’s no longer news; actually, a Primary 6 student is aware of that fact. Despite these challenge, Nigeria youths are rising up to the challenge by creating Jobs for ourselves. Following the recent world trend we are are embracing E-Commerce. As beautiful as the concept of E-commerce is, certain factors can serve as a hindrance to its growth in Nigeria vis-viz Africa. And honestly, I am getting tired.

I decided to carry out a little researched carried out in the Central Part of Lagos Mainland Surulere to be precise, over 50 of the Online Stores within that area had a major challenge with Logistics.

Before I share my own story, hear is what I observed from other budding entrepreneurs like me.
One of the Business Owners I interviewed simply known as Jude confessed that he couldn’t use courier services because they are too expensive, he would rather get an in-house errand personnel who makes the deliveries to several parts of Lagos. According to him, after about 6 months, he discovered that majority of his customers complained about the LATE delivery of items order for. This was because, although his in-house errand personnel knew Lagos well, he couldn’t easily locate the Residence of certain clients who live in secluded parts of Lagos. After 6 months, he discovered that her client based reduced drastically.

Another Start Up entrepreneur who has an Online Boutique complained that although she worked with a Courier service, she realized that after 12 months, she couldn’t Break Even. Majority of her Profit was being used to service the courier service, hereby affecting other key areas of her online boutique.

Funke who is into printing also complained that due to the nature of her Job, she has not been able to fully expand. Because she can’t afford to tell her clients stories, she takes the printed fliers, banners, business cards, magazines and stuffs, directly to the customers herself. In doing this, her office operations are put on hold until she returns. With the unpredictable nature of Lagos roads, she sometimes doesn’t get back to the office that day.

After listening to the Logistics Challenges faced by these persons, I knew that indeed there is a major problem. On my part as Food Vendor, I discovered that I couldn’t effectively manage the process of delivering food myself. My company bought a Bike and for a while it seemed like all was good, but as we expanded I realized that we couldn’t get to all our clients effectively. We needed more bikes; we also needed to improve on our menu and many other things. Over time, I realize my business was losing focus.

As I speak to you now, I really don’t know the way forward.

#InspireMonday Think SERVICE... Not just SURVIVAL

Think SERVICE… Not just SURVIVAL

There was a point in our human existence when being tagged a “SUCCESS” was easy. It was a one way Traffic. Go to School, Get Good Degrees; Get a Good Job, Get Married, Raise Children, Retire at 65, Die at a Good Old ripe Age.  Well… In this 21st Century… that story will just turn you into a “Common Nigerian”; with little to give your Children/Grand Children.

In this century, the Story has and MUST change. Today, the definition of success has drastically changed from just being able to meet your daily bread, to the ability to GROW WEALTH and INFLUENCE your world. Such that, generations unborn would reap from your deeds.  To achieve this feat, our youths must begin to think SERVICE!
You may be tempted to ask… WHAT IS SERVICE? Simply put, Service is the ability to translate a Talent, Gifting, Potential or Ability into a form that can meet a NEED and you can be REWARDED for. i.e Once you have the ability to solve a challenge using the inborn ability you have inside you, you have become a SERVICE PROVIDER.
The World today is ruled by SERVICE PROVIDERS, those that have the capacity to solve problems in any sector of the society.

HOW DO I BECOME A SERVICE PROVIDER?

a.      RESPECT WHAT YOU HAVE: no matter how infinitesimal your talent looks like, don’t disregard it. It is important you RESPECT that which the creator has bestowed inside you. Many a time, we erroneously believe that we need MORE Talents in other to achieve more, regrettably, that is so fallacious, what we actually need is MORE FOCUS on that which we have already.

b.      DEVELOP YOURSELF: Like we all know, TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH! It is imperative you GROW the Natural gifting you have. In today’s world, no one appreciates and rewards ONLY TALENT. Through growth and development, that Potential, Gift or Talent can be translated into a SKILL that can be used to provide a SERVICE that the society can reward you for. Therefore, it is important you attend training, seminars, workshops, exhibitions e.t.c whatever you can do to GROW that which you have inside you, engage in it wholeheartedly.

c.       GIVE IT OUT: It’s imprudent to light a candle stick and place it under a table. It is vital you find ways to GIVE OUT that which you have inside you. Engage in Volunteering Projects, take part in Religious Projects, engage your family, friends, neighborhood, community e.t.c; everyone around you must be able to define you based on your gifting. Tell them, Serve Them! At the preliminary stage, you may have to pay for the needed platforms to showcase your gifting’s, but as you stay committed and keep growing, your Value would increase, then your demand increases and when that happens, you can then begin to add charges to your SERVICE.

Majority of the people who COMPLAIN around you, are SURVIVALS, that’s why any flip-flop in the economy threatens their survival. However, as a SERVICE PROVIDER, there is this confidence that comes with your daily action, you know that each day you spend on your Service, you are becoming more important and valued; therefore your place in the economy is not threatened.

Conclusively, the Nations that THINK SERVICE always outclass those that Think Only SURVIVAL. From this moment, make a commitment, that as an individual, you are going to be a Service Provider. Make a Resolve to keep Providing Solutions to the Challenges of those within your circle of influence.

NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH FAMILY

WHY YOU SHOULDN’T DO BUSINESS
WITH FAMILY

Life is a teacher, the more we live, the higher our chances of learning. The few years I spent on this earth are good enough to let me know that the biggest downfall of a man begins when he starts a business with family.  For the purpose of this piece permit me to define family as – Anyone who is closely knitted to another individual over a long period of time, and has access to the individuals public and private life.
Many promising business have gone down the drain over the years because a naïve individual decided to bring FAMILY into the business.

Quickly I will give you few reasons why you should NEVER allow family near your business.

1.     ABSENCE OF PROFESSIONALISM: Except you want to remain a small player in your business, you can never really achieve professionalism in a business that family is involved in. The term FAMILIARITY BREEDS COMTEMPT is better demonstrated in this regard.  A wife who addresses her husband as ‘HONEY’ at home may find it extremely difficult, if not impossible to refer to the same man as ‘BOSS’ or ‘SIR’ in the business environment. Any attempt for the Man who is the CEO of the company to correct his wife who happens to be the PRO or hold a lesser position in the company may lead to unnecessary friction on the home front.

2.     ACCOUNTABILITY ISSUES: Working with or for family can become very tiring when the issue of accountability arises. A younger brother who works with or for his older brother in a business may not be fully accountable because he believes his brother should TRUST him with the accounts. Searching for clarification from the younger brother may spring up issues of trust within the family; it becomes more complex when both individuals are from a polygamous family.

3.     PENALITIES: Intertwined with accountability is PENALITY. When laws are broken, or there happens to be a breach of contract, delivering a verdict on the accused or defaulter can indeed be a herculean task; especially in the African setting. How can a Man lock up his OWN BLOOD BROTHER in jail because he stole #50,000.? Yet the people forget that they business itself may not even be worth up to that.

4.     FAVORATISM: This is very common in many African businesses; upon retirement a man puts his first son in charge as the CEO, when there are better qualified MD’s that could effectively take over. This action in itself brings inner conflict in the organization, dividing the company into Pro New CEO, and team LOYAL to OLD MD’s. After a short while, the company folds up because of disunity. Having family in business can prevent the top organization from making the right decisions at times.

5.     SECURITY RISK:  90% of robbers always confess that they have an inside man that gives them information about their target. Who best to serve as an informant than your “Family”? We all know that the average African man is not happy about his brothers progress, so rather than work to increase his brother’s wealth, he is eager to bring the brother ‘DOWN’. Having a family know about your accounts, business deals, and expenditure is the fastest way to allow men of the underworld into your home.

Conclusively the business world is a serious one, and to succeed, you must be able to draw the line between your BUSINESS and your FAMILY.  Understand that having a family is not a guarantee for building a successful business empire. Search for individuals with the best skills and qualifications to enhance your business.

STRICTLY FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

YOU NEED TO SEE THIS!!!

A WISE ENTREPRENEUR SHOULD
AVOID THESE KIND OF PEOPLE

1.      YES MEN:  That’s the closest name I could give to them. They are the kind of people that always tell you what you would like to hear. They either do this out of respect for you or your craft or because they simply don’t care. As a boss or a follower; it is important you have people that are willingly to tell you the truth. Especially when it is bitter. An individual that agrees with EVERYTHING you say or do is not a true friend.

2.      WHAT IF:  Also known as doubting Thomas… these kind of people are naturally gifted at finding practical reasons why certain things would not work. Once you tell them about a project or an idea, their brain is automatically programmed to look for logical obstacles. They are this way because of fear or past experiences. Once in a while, its “OK” to listen to them, but if you let these kind of people be your confidants, you will NEVER achieve anything worthwhile

3.      COMPLAINERS:  Yea right… Just the way you have professional “Mourners” in burial ceremonies, there are people that are specialized COMPLAINERS. There is hardly a time you interact with them that they give you any good news. These set of people are ardent followers of News on CNN, BBC, VOA, CHANNELS and many more. They feed their conscious and sub conscious minds with negative reports that they have no choice but to dump such negative reports as complain on you. They complain about the youths, complain about the church, complain about the government, anything and everything they complain about. A heart that complains can never be grateful and an ungrateful heart cannot succeed.

4.       TIME WASTERS: They come in different shape and sizes. Anyone that doesn’t respect time doesn’t appreciate life. Although it’s almost impossible to see Nigerians or Africans who respect time, but the ones who have attained good measure of success VALUE every second of their time.  People, who always break appointments, are not people to hold close. Such people are constantly filled with EXCUSES; and the number one enemy of growth is EXCUSES.

5.      SELF Appointed gods:  There are certain people who always believe they know the best for you. Having people that care about you is good, but when their care is measured only by your doing their will, there is a problem.  The support of these kind of people is largely dependent on your willingness to follow them hook, line and sinker. Once your heart desire or plans differ from theirs, they consider it useless and unprofitable.   Its good to receive counsel from others, but when these people find it difficult to trust your visions, dreams or plans, it’s important you keep your distance from them.

FAMILY BUSINESS

WHY YOU MUST DO BUSINESS
WITH FAMILY

One thing that makes Africa and Africans special is our love and respect for FAMILY. The African society prides itself  with the institution of family. This in itself has positively affected our lifestyles including our businesses.

Quickly we would examine few reasons why we MUST involve family in our businesses.

1.       EASY START UP: The fastest way to start any business is taking full advantage of the family line. Over time many great entrepreneurs started multinational organizations by using their Spouses, brothers, sisters, and children as Receptionist, Cleaners, Marketers and many more.   Even in the church business, a Pastor wife can be the Women’s Leader, Assistant Pastor, Treasurer, Choir Leader and even the Sanitation Unit Leader. All these can be possible because most times the love shared by family makes it easier for them to believe and support your dream without any direct plan for a reward.  Many people support or help businesses only when they have seen it thriving, however family is always ready to help… As long as they have faith in you.

2.       ENHANCES UNITY:  In dealing with humans, there is a tendency for people to err and offend each other, however when Family is involved in a particular business, their bond becomes stronger. Minor challenges are forgiven and forgotten all because of the growth and success of the business. The facts that they both have something bigger than their ego, or pride to protect will make them settle disputes quickly and amicably.

3.       INCREASES LOVE: There is nothing as pleasant as working with/for someone you love. Working with a family breeds an atmosphere of love and where there is love there is higher possibility for higher productivity. The working atmosphere most times affects the productivity of the workers. A work environment filled with hate and bitterness can never produce good results.

4.       CONTINUITY: What will be a man’s gain if he spends years building a business empire without a sure plan for continuity? The best people to live a dream are does closet to the owner of the dream. To ensure that your sweat and labor is not tarnished or forgotten, it is important that family is involved in the business you are into. With family, you can be assured that the founding Principles, Traditions and Goals of the business would be upheld. This is way better than having a stranger coming to reconstruct a foundation you have already laid.

5.       SECURITY: in today’s business world, TRUST is very scarce if not absent. Many people cannot be trusted; however, its remains safer to trust Family than an outsider. Sometimes in the course of running our businesses we may be tempted to delegate certain financial transaction to others. Delegating to family is less risky because you know the root of that family member; unlike an outsider that you have no clear idea of his/her past except for their CV.

Business is good, but a man with family has more wealth. To build a great generational business empire, it is important you carefully integrate your family to your business. When this done, you can be sure that your business would thrive successfully with or without your direct presence.
