OPERATION DUST STORM
Live In Area 8 OPIC
Estate.
Yes o! You heard me right! Its what it is… This is an
Operation led by no other but the Management of Ogun State Property Investment
Cooperation (OPIC). Directly or indirectly, they have chosen to lead this
operation on innocent residents of the estate.
For more than 8 months, people living in and around Area 8
have had to battle with various diseases caused by the high rate of dust
pollution in the area. A road that should have been completed over a year ago
has remained uncompleted and filled with Red Sand instead of Coal Tar. The
Contractors just concentrated their efforts at the entrance of the estate,
making it look like the whole estate is beautiful; but on getting inside, it’s
obvious that it’s never safe to judge a book by its cover.
Houses within Area 8 have all turned brown, crimson or even
red, thanks to the millions of dust particles unleashed on them daily.
Electrical equipments in these homes are not spared also as dust affect the
component parts of major electronics.
The most pitiable part of this dust pollution is the terrible
effect it has on the residents of Area 8; Cold, Catarrh, Cough, Irritation of
eyes, Hay fever, Asthma Attacks are just few among many ways people are
suffering from this Dust Pollution.
All efforts made by the Resident Association Of Ogun State
Property Investment Cooperation to remedy this situation have been sabotaged by
OPIC management. The situation further deteriorated when commercial motorists
were given access to the residential road as an alternative to the dilapidated
government Agbara- Atan Road.
At the moment, no life has been lost as a result of this
preventable storm; as an observer, I pray that Senator Ibikunle Amosun led
government will do something definite about this issue before it becomes
fatal.
