HIDDEN BENEFITS OF ASUU STRIKE

Going into the University is usually a dream for so many young people, but in Nigeria leaving the school is a bigger dream. Thanks to our government and sometimes the greed of ASUU, Students are expected to spend 4 years in a course spend 5 or 6 years… those billed to spend 6 years (medicine) spend upto 7,8 and ive heard cases of 10 years. Truthfully, the obvious effects are painful and tiring for both the students and their parents. However, just like in life, every strike comes with its own blessings in disguise. Check out some of the blessings.

1.      OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN A SKILL: From the moment students get their JAMB result, the only thing they think of it ADMISSION, after ADMISSION
its, REGISTRATION, after REGISTRATION is  LECTURE, CLASS, ASSIGNMENTS, EXAMS… the cycle continues… there is no time for these young people to think of their NATURAL TALENT and POTENTIALS. The school system occupies these children so much that they don’t have time to think of other aspects of their lives. ASUU Strike gives the students a beautiful opportunity to Learn a SKILL that can be an added advantage to them in life.  Skills like Photograpghy, Graphics Designs, Make Up, Cakes & Pastries, Bead making, Shoe /Bag Making e.t.c.

2.      OPPORTUNITY TO BOND WITH PARENTS:  The child you knew before school sometimes is not the same child inside school. The Pressure, the stress, the hunger, the fear, the loneliness and all sorts can CHANGE a child and sometimes lead them to seeking solace in the wrong places, or with the wrong people. STRIKES like these give parents the opportunity to study and observe their children. It also gives the child a chance to REMEMBER THEIR IDENTITY. They can find comfort and guidance in the words and admonition of their parents.

3.      ECONOMIC RELIEF: The recession unarguably affected to many parents, and while the desire to see their children as graduates remained, the financial resources to make this a reality dwindled a bit. With this Strike, the burden of sending Monthly CHOP MONEY can be avoided for a while. Parents would be saved the heartache and headache of thinking of how to send the next Handout, Project or Assignment Money. Additionally, for parents that are into Personal businesses or its likes, their children can provide support to them and also make small money for themselves.

4.      BETTER EDUCATION:  A hungry man is said to be an AGNRY man, and trust me, no Angry man is ever a good lecturer. ASUU as always strike when they want better economic or social packages for their lectures. Therefore for this strike to be called off, the FG will have to meet if not all, but a good percentage of their demands. When this is done, there is a huge possibility that these lecturers will take their jobs more seriously and help do students learn better. So, in the end, the students are better off.

5.      BUSINESSES WILL BOOM: Eateries, Cinemas, Relaxation spots and bars have been relatively quite due to low patronage. Most people are very prudent with their spending. They buy only that which is solely essential and let go of anything else. With students back at home, these business owners can breathe an air of relief. With the influx of more young people in the area, slowing businesses will pick up again.
